Free Man Land
Honorable Mention
Unbuild the Wall • Competition
Partner : Tom Espinos • Summer 2017
"Free man's land" explores different border activities that embrace and connect two independent nations into one united entity. By introducing an excavated border, we reject the idea of a separating wall that acts as a visual barrier and thus a cultural one.
The trench will be constituted of one high-line per country that are both divided into a walking and biking path Citizens can experience the moments of merging and diverging of the flying structure and share interests and experiences as soon the curves flirt with each-other and create a shareable activity.
Each activity demands the participation of both countries, through sports of teams like volleyball or through the choice of an iconic national movie and others to learn about the adjacent nation's history and present culture.
These bridges will sit on commercial spaces that are divided by a fully green environment. The river and surrounding agriculture are not only to be used as appeasing factors for the high-lines but will have an important economical and environmental role for the surrounding local areas on both sides.
